Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze'

Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze'

Blaze Little Blue Stem

Zone 3 - 9

AKA Andropogon scoparius. This native, clumping grass is exceptionally drought tolerant. It has slightly arching leaves which emerge light blue and darken to blue-green in the summer. Fall colour is outstanding with intense shades of orange and red. Silvery seedheads appear in late summer and persist through fall.

Prefers average well-drained soil in full sun and can tolerate drought, once established. Thrives in summer heat and humidity. Plants should be cut back in the spring to make way for new growth. Too much moisture or too fertile a soil will cause flowers to fall over, creating a messy look. Spectacular when mass planted, undulating and moving in the breeze. HEIGHT: 90-120 cm SPREAD: 50-70 cm
