Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas
Zone 6
Tidy, compact, dwarf plant with spectacular, vibrant orange-red, funnel-shaped blooms that are splashed with gold and dark streaks in the centre. A very showy perennial that will brighten your garden from June through to September. A fabulous plant for containers. Best grown in full sun to partial shade in average to moist soil. In Zone 6 gardens it may be overwintered in a protected location with a thick application of mulch. In colder climates dig up the tubers, dry and store in a plastic bag filled with peat moss. Keep it in a dark cool, dry location but not freezing. Best to wear gloves when handling the plant as it may cause skin irritations.
