Perennial Plant of the Year 2011
Thread-leaf Blue Star
Zone 5 - 9
Amsonia hubrichtii is a perennial with multi-seasonal garden interest. Also known as the Thread-leaf Blue Star, this carefree, long-lived perennial produces masses of starry, sky-blue flowers in late spring and early summer. It has a nice bushy form with beautiful, needle-like foliage which turns a wonderful clear yellow in the fall. The colourful foliage creates a lovely billowy, cloud-like effect. It is disease and pest free, plus it is deer resistant.
This Amsonia grows about 36" tall and will grow into a mound just about as wide. It is easily grown in full sun to partial shade in average, well-drained soil. Once established it is tolerant of drier conditions. A great border perennial for sun to part shade. HEIGHT: 75-100 cm SPREAD: 60-90 cm
