Michaelmas Daisy, Fall Aster
Zn 4 - 9
One of the great traditional asters. Produces huge masses of single, deep-blue daisy-like blooms with a golden centre from August to October. Easily grown in a sunny, well-drained location. Perfect for the fall garden. Deer resistant. A magnet for butterflies. HEIGHT: 60-80 cm SPREAD: 60-75 cm
Hardy Asters are excellent ornamentals for the late summer and fall garden. They prefer a sunny location with well-draining soil but will also tolerate partial shade. Although not completely drought tolerant their water requirements are average. Most varieties are long flowering and will re-bloom if cut back hard after the first bloom is complete. (Weather permitting.) Hardy Asters are excellent for cutting and also are very attractive to butterflies.
These easy-to-grow, profuse bloomers are not used nearly enough by gardeners.
