New England Aster
Excellent compact form. Smothered with masses of vibrant, deep purple, shaggy daisies in late summer and early fall. Excellent resistance to powdery mildew. HEIGHT: 70-80 cm SPREAD: 100-110 cm
Hardy Asters are excellent ornamentals for the late summer and fall garden. They prefer a sunny location with well-draining soil but will also tolerate partial shade. Although not completely drought tolerant their water requirements are average. Most varieties are long flowering and will re-bloom if cut back hard after the first bloom is complete. (Weather permitting.) Hardy Asters are excellent for cutting and also are very attractive to butterflies.
These easy-to-grow, profuse bloomers are not used nearly enough by gardeners.
