Carolina Allspice, Common Sweetshrub

This unusual shrub brings multi-season interest to the garden. In the spring it produces velvety, rust-red, Magnolia-like flowers which are very fragrant -- described as pineapple, strawberry and banana. Compact, bushy shrub has glossy, dark green foliage which becomes golden-yellow in the fall. Flowers are followed by brownish seed capsules which mature in the fall and persist into the winter. Easily grown in full sun to partial shade in a wide variety of soils. Also can be grown in shadier situations. HEIGHT: 150-175 cm SPREAD: 175-200 cm
