Alpine Wood Fern, Wallich's Wood Fern

This is a big, spreading fern. In the spring young fronds are a yellowish-green with a contrasting dark reddish brown central stem. As they age the lance-shaped fronds become thick, leathery and dark green. Upright clumping form, spreading slowly by shallow underground rhizones. Semi-evergreen. HEIGHT: 90-120 cm.
Dryopteris prefer moist to average, well-drained soils in full shade or part shade. They need constant moisture and do not like to dry out.
