Joe Pye Weed, Boneset
Zone 3
Huge, spectacular architectural perennial with wine red flower heads held on contrasting burgundy stems. Blooms mid-to-late summer. An outstanding accent for the back of the border. A great companion for larger ornamental grasses or other large perennials such as Rudbeckia Herbstonne. Loved by butterflies and bees. Easily grown in sun to partial shade, in average to wet well drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Cut it back by a third early in the season for a more compact, bushy plant. Spent blooms provide winter interest plus food for birds. HEIGHT: 150-200 cm SPREAD: 100-125 cm
