Western Oak Fern
Zone 3 - 9
Hairy fiddleheads rise, not from a central crown like most ferns, but from under the soil, and develop into 3 fronds for each leaf division. Delicate, pale green fronds in spring darkening with age. Fronds emerge along a long creeping rhizome. This is a low growing, spreading fern which will provide an excellent groundcover. Oak fern prefers moist to average, well-drained soils in full shade or part shade. They need constant moisture and do not like to dry out. Native to Ontario. HEIGHT: 15-30 cm SPREAD: 30-45 cm
