Kentucky Coffee Tree
Zone 4
This Ontario native develops a large, oval canopy of irregular branches and compound, blue-green leaves which turn yellow in the fall. Produces fragrant, greenish-white flowers from May to June which are followed by long, flat, brown seed pods. Native peoples and early settlers roasted and ground the seeds to brew a coffee-like drink. This fast growing tree is easily grown in full sun and moist to average, well-drained soil.
