Lonicera caerula 'Borealis'
Zone 2-3
Haskap is the Japanese name for the Edible Blue Honeysuckle -- apparently meaning 'berry of long life and good vision'. The berries resemble large, elongated blueberries. Their flavour is a unique combination of raspberry and blueberry. 'Borealis' is thought to have the largest, best tasting fruit. Shrubs are well-behaved, pest and disease free and exceptionally hardy. Haskap are best grown in full sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Important - more than one variety is needed for good berry production. To find out more about this very interesting and ornamental fruiting shrub visit - www.haskap.ca.
