Sour-Gum, Black-Gum

Black-Gum is a small to medium, shade tree native to Ontario. It has an upright, oval form with dark green leaves which turn brilliant red in the fall. Produces shiny blue fruit which is too sour for humans but loved by birds and small forest animals. It prefers sun to part shade and moist to wet soils however it is tolerant of drier conditions.
