Prickly Pear Cactus

Wonderful oddity. Native to Southern Ontario. This cactus is completely winter hardy but it must be situated in a very well-drained location and protected from winter wet. Best grown in full sun and sandy soil. The plant is made up of thick, fleshy pads with are covered with prickly spines. In summer it has large sulpur yellow flowers. Left undisturbed it will form a large colony over time. Important: Handle with care and keep away from children as the little prickly spines will easily stick to bare flesh and be extremely irritating. HEIGHT: 20-30 cm SPREAD: 75-90 cm
