Flanders Field Poppy, Veteran Poppy
Zone 3 - 9
This historic and well-known poppy produces masses of brilliant, crimson-red flowers with a near-black centre. Large, crepe-like, bowl-shaped blooms flower in June and July. Will freely self seed. Glorious, dramatic and ephemeral. Long lived and very hardy, unfortunately the blooms do not last very long. Grow these very showy plants in full sun and well-drained soil. After flowering the foliage will die back and the plant will completely retreat underground until the coolness of fall brings a small new flush of foliage. Avoid soggy or poorly drained soil which can cause the plant to rot. Heat and drought tolerant once established. HEIGHT: 45-50 cm SPREAD: 50-60 cm
