Prairie Coneflower, Drooping Coneflower
Zone 3
This interesting native plant is rarely offered. Too bad as it is a very durable perennial, exceptionally hardy, drought tolerant once established and adaptable to many less than ideal soil conditions. It is a tall perennial with sturdy, well-branched stalks bearing unique, daisy-like blooms from July to September. Flowers have a tall, distinct red-brown cone with long drooping yellow petals. Best grown in full sun. Attractive to butterflies and pollinators. Great companion to ornamental grasses.
