Alpine Betony Perennial Plant of the Year 2019
Zone 4 - 9
Until recently not a very well known variety. Related to Lamb's Ears but quite different. Forms a mounding clump of attractive, crinkled foliage and is set with upright spikes bearing bright purple flowers. Long flowering from early-to-late summer particularly if spent blooms are removed. Shear it back after flowering. Easily grown in full sun and any reasonable garden soil. Interesting texture in the garden. Attractive to honey bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. Also good for cutting. HEIGHT: 45-50 cm SPREAD: 45-60 cm
